Dear KEYS Academy-Caroline Families,

What better way to end the first semester, than to share some celebrations from KEYS Academy-Caroline! As our census has grown at KEYS Academy-Caroline, it has been exciting to see new students enrolling, which also means new additions to our staff. This school year we have welcomed Ms Aeylla, Mr. Brandon, and Ms. Rachel, and Ms. Kaitlin to the KEYS family! As we welcomed new staff to the team, we kicked off our annual Office Olympics for staff to do some team and relationship building. Our relationship-based program is not just for our students, it starts with our staff first.

KEYS Academy-Caroline continues to utilize different models of instruction: hybrid learning and in-person learning. Our students have also utilized different models of instruction in the classroom: small group (teacher-led) instruction, staff-supported computer-mediated instruction, and one-on-one instruction. As engagement has increased, so have their work habits and motivation to finish coursework.

We continue to help our students with transition plans, as all of our current students are middle and high school age and approaching transition. So, providing them opportunities to meet with DARS for Pre-Employment Transition Services has been an area of focus for us this semester. Our students also continue to work with organizations outside of KEYS Academy to get more exposure to career opportunities. Our partnerships continue to grow this year as we will be exposing our students to astronomy, fire/rescue, and culinary arts. We continue to interact with the therapy dogs from Paws for Purple Heart, as well as starting our visits back up to Cindy’s Closet Thrift Store second quarter.

Two new things that we have added this school year are monthly yoga classes and culinary arts classes. The student response to these new additions has been assuring.

Sincerely,

Charlene Gray, Director
